MyBuilder.com is an innovative start-up based in East London, enabling homeowners to find reliable tradesmen through the power of online reviews. We are a hard working, close-knit team dedicated to creating an incredible product. Our headquarters reflect our unique culture; we have an office bar, guitars, drawing club and a volunteer food team who make lunches for their colleagues.
Do you want to design something that makes people’s lives better?
Our business is all about helping people, and design is key to our success. Our web app is the most important part of our business. It needs to be thoughtfully designed, uncomplicated and fast. We’re looking for a designer-developer who believes that their designs can make a meaningful difference and cares about how their designs are implemented.
Working closely with the rest of the tech team, you would be responsible for everything from our landing pages to the interface used by our customers on a daily basis. You would be involved in the entire product life-cycle, from conception to design to implementation so would tend to split your time 50/50 between design and code. MyBuilder is a complex web app, so you will spend a lot of time making sure a design not only looks great, but works for our customers.
The right person
This role is perfect for someone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of a product and its customers to help us to improve and grow our business over time. When a design doesn’t quite work you will jump at the chance to make it better.
The role requires a solid understanding of HTML and CSS, so you will be eager to dedicate a good portion of your time coding.
We come from different backgrounds, with a varied range of strengths and skill sets, but we all share some common traits. Like us, you will relish close collaboration with a team of dedicated colleagues. You will be able to give constructive feedback, but will also be able to listen to the feedback of others with humility and genuine interest. You will want to work in an environment that encourages learning as there will be opportunities to explore new technologies and try out new design ideas.
Our interview process
If this role sounds interesting to you, please send us your CV with examples of your recent work. If we think you might fit in with the team, typically you will first meet with our Product Manager and CTO. If it works out we’ll send you a HTML and CSS code test to complete at home. Finally, if everything looks good you’ll come in for a further meeting with our CEO and a design exercise. But we’re a startup, so sometimes this can change!
